About the People - Michael and Laura Kloeti

After a four-year apprenticeship and working as Sous Chef near his home in Switzerland, Michael Kloeti grew interested in enriching his classical education with that of other cultures. Shortly after meeting his wife, Laura, (also in Switzerland completing an internship through The Culinary Institute of America) they moved to New York City. Michael first worked for Restaurant Associates at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Trustee Dining Room at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Michael then joined Gray Kunz at Lespinasse Restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel during which time the restaurant received four stars from the New York Times. The opportunity to work as Sous Chef at the Lodge at Koele Resort brought him to Lanai, Hawaii in 1995, and the invitation to take the position of Chef de Cuisine at the St. Regis Hotel was the impetus for Michael's return to New York City two years later. In 1999, an offer from long-time friend and colleague brought them to South Londonderry, Vermont. As Chef de Cuisine of the Three Clock Inn, Michael combined imported products with local ingredients creating a cuisine worthy of the most discriminating palates.

Michael's passion for food is shared with his wife, Laura. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Restaurant Management from Syracuse University, she decided to continue her education at The Culinary Institute of America. She has worked as a chef and manager in various hotels and restaurants in Switzerland, New York City, Hawaii and Vermont. She has a love for cooking that is most highly reflective in her desserts.

Together, they opened their long-awaited dream. Michael's on the Hill Restauant, located in Waterbury Center, Vermont offers innovative European cuisine with the perfect blend of American Regional influence. As members of the Vermont Fresh Network, the use of local, fresh products are of premier importance.

Michael and Laura live in Stowe and have two children: Alex, age 8, and Eric, age 6.
